Counselling offers a space for growth, stabilization, recovery, healing, and connection. I believe that much of human suffering is the result of disconnection and loneliness. As humans, we require connection. When we do not have this or we fear our connection is under threat, we respond. In counselling, we can explore this response to better understand our patterns and why we often find ourselves stuck, isolated, and distraught.
While we all have the tools to maintain, improve, and stabilize our mental health, I believe that the best results can be achieved collaboratively; I can provide a supportive, non-judgemental space to help you access these tools. By following a combination of evidence-based practice and semi-structured talk therapy, I look to use a model that meets you where your needs are. If you require directive care, I will provide that. If a more loosely formed treatment plan is required, I will gladly support you. I maintain a client-centered approach that recognizes the complicated systems life presents. I believe we are all constantly shaping and being shaped by our environments and it is important to recognize the influence of these systems on us.
I bring into counselling valuable experience working with diverse populations through community development in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, a mental health and substance use team in the Fraser Valley, and providing therapy to First Nations adults and youth groups in Ontario.
